Biography


Born in São Paulo on August 11th, 1984, Lucas Di Grassi’s career has evolved from karting to professional single seater formula racing.

He is also part of the Renault Driver Development programme (RDD).

Career Highlights

2000 – Di Grassi’s earned a 5th place in the Formula A World Championship.

2003 – 2nd place in the Brazilian Formula Renault.

2001 – Lucas began racing Brazilian Formula Renault in 2001.

2003 – Drove a Dallara F301 Mugen-Honda for Avallone Motorsport in Formula Three Sudamericana. He finished the champtionship in second place with one win and eleven podiuns. He missed 6 races and suffered a huge crash in Curitiba GP. Lucas then went to Europe and participated on the F3 Euroseries wit the Prema Powerteam with a season’s best of 4th place.

2004 – Move permanently to Europe, joined he team Hitech Racing in the British F3 Championship. On that season, he finished in eight with two wins.

2005 – Di Grassi raced again in the Euroseries with Manor Motorsport. Racing against Lewis Hamilton and Adrian Sutil Against in a superior team, Lucas managed to win one race and finished the championship in third. Di Grassi won Macau’s event, having started from 3rd.

2006 – Di Grassi advanced to the Formula One feeder series, GP2 Grand Prix, with Team Durango.

2007 – Joined GP2’s ART Grand Prix (reigning champions). Finished 2nd in the championship.

2008 – While testing for Renault F1 Lucas rejoined GP2 at Campos Racing.  Despite only starting on round 4 he managed to finished in third, just behind Bruno Senna and Giorgio Pantano.

2009 – Lucas joins Racing Engineering for another season in GP2 with 1 win and one pole, achieving the 3rd spot on the championship.
